This is a Common Periwinkle or Whelk. They are basically sea snails! I took this photo through the water. Sadly in parts of the UK they are eaten, not by me though!

DeleteI am pretty sure that your perwinkle should be periwinkle, Ananka. When I was last in the UK I was urged to try them. Wonderful opportunity though it might have been, I declined!
