Holding Bees

Holding A Bee in Scotland

These photos are all a few years old. These are 3 bees that I helped with sugar solution during the summer when they ran out of puff! Every summer I carry sugar solution when I am out and if I see a bee struggling I put some of the solution on my hand and pick the bee up and it usually takes it and flies off. The last one, I place it on a flower. If there are flowers about I normally put them on the flowers. Holding a bee isn't a scary thing. It can be quite tickly at first though and takes a minute to get used to. In all my years of helping them I have never been stung by a bee.

  1. Boa tarde. Uma excelente quinta-feira com muita paz e saúde. Algumas no Brasil não possuem ferrão. Outras a picada é dolorida. Mais sem elas, morremos. Precisamos da polinização.

  16. I put a sponge out with sugar water on it at the beginning of the season when they first began to emerge. There are not many flowers open when they first show up. I like your idea of carrying around sugar water. I might also attach a brush, broken in half, onto a small bottle. I could put a few drops on the flowers near the bees without getting those sticky fingers.

    1. That would like a good idea. I always carry wipes with me so the sticky fingers isn't really a problem! Glad you help them too :-D
