Azara's Agouti at Edinburgh Zoo

Azara's agouti at Edinburgh Zoo in Scotland

This is from a few years ago. It's Azara's Agouti (Dasyprocta azarae) from Edinburgh Zoo. I'd like to get back to the Zoo this year. It is very hilly and lots of walking so I think that will be a challenge!

  7. I'd mistake it for a groundhog.

  11. Oh, how cute! That brings back such lovely memories: We saw agoutis in the wild in Costa Rica. But they were very shy and therefore difficult to photograph. Our best agouti photo was taken by my husband in Manuel Antonio National Park (you can see it here in collage number 12, if you like: https://rostrose.blogspot.com/2023/06/costa-rica-12-kapitel-nationalpark.html). It wasn't quite as fluffy as the one at Edinburgh Zoo... (probably a different subspecies), but still cute. I'm keeping my fingers crossed that you can visit it again soon.
All the best from Austria, Traude
