  4. What a cheeky little coot! 😆 It must have wanted in on the fun—who can blame it? Mallards do throw quite the lively gathering! Such a great capture of nature’s little social mix-ups. 🦆✨

  13. Lovely photograph. The mallards were not having it! :) Or maybe there was some food he was trying to get to. These are all females on one side, and the odd one is a male. That's why be why they're moving away, not only because they are different species. You have captured an interesting moment.

I have sometimes seen female ducks flock around male ducks of other species, though.

I have a story to tell in regards to that...There was this male white duck that had a whole group of wild female mallards accompany him at all time. I suspect he was an escaped domestic white duck, because what else could he be? His species doesn't exist in nature, he was a common domestic white duck, I think they're called pekins. He had half a dozen mallard females around him, though. How he managed to get such a following, I never understood. He must have had a nice personality.
Initially, he lived with his 'girlfriends' in a nature park Hutovo Blato, but after a fire happened one Summer, they escaped to Mostar for a time being, so I used to see them around the town as well. They eventually returned to Hutovo Blato. I wonder if he has a big family now!

    1. Glad you like it Ivana. I think they all had a good time. I gave them plenty of food! It is good to see the different species interacting well.

That is a good story about the white duck, yes sounds like a Pekin Duck. They are lovely white ducks. He must be a lovely guy to have so many girls after him! I bet they have a huge family now. Lovely story. Ducks are wonderful creatures :-D
