Icy Mallard

Male Mallard on frozen pond in Scotland

This ia a male mallard, you can tell from the grey and green. The girls are brown. This was taken round about this time last year. He is standing on a frozen bit of the pond! That is what I am gonna miss most about my injury, not getting out anytime soon and seeing nature. Once I am able to walk, I might hobble into my garden and see what I can find, so at least I will be posting current photos. Let's hope I can weight bear soon.

  13. It's funny to see the ducks standing on the ice in the wetlands--- when there IS ice. We've avoided that sort of thing so far this winter.

  14. Lovely photo of the mallard, but it does look cold, (the weather, not the duck).
I used to have a Mr. and Mrs. Mallard. I told people I had them since they were an egg which sounds weird but was true. We found a nest in one of the fields with a lot of feathers and a wing so obviously something had taken the mother. The eggs were still barely warm so we brought them back and put them under a broody hen. Two hatched and we kept them in a run by night and let them go free by day. They never attempted to leave us.

  17. I know it's frustrating not being able to get out. Things will be ever so extra special when you are finally able to get out there, the mallards will be flapping their wings with joy :)
