Goodbye Jethro

Not a post I wanted to make. Jethro passed away at 3.30pm today. I had got back from work and he was shouting and lying on the floor. I had to get my daughter early from school and took him to the vets straight away. They said it didn't look good and took him for test. They then came back and told me the worst. I got to spend a little time with him before he passed. He was a Bengal and the vets said that he did really well making it to 16. He had celebrated his birthday on Friday there which I posted about.

I have never lost a pet before and the pain I am feeling right now is the same pain I felt when I lost my dad all those years ago. I loved Jethro with all my heart.

I got Jethro when he was 12 weeks old. I remember that day so vividly back in 2010 as he was my first ever cat. I got Abby and Chiana a few hours later. I actually started blogging back in 2011 but it was just about Nail Polish. Jethro would often photobomb the shoots so he featured a few times on that blog as I liked the photos.

I will see how I am feeling in the next few days and might post some photos from the archives. 16 years worth of the boy! The photo is one of the last I took on his birthday.

Rest in Peace my sweet boy, I will miss you forever <3

  1. I am so sorry. It is the pain of losing a family member. We have lost two cats so I understand. They are never ‘just cats’.

  8. I learned to love cats as a little girl, growing up in my parents' house with 12 of them. Today they are all gone, but my parents kept eight kittens, all offspring of my five cats.
Your beautiful cat Jethro will always be remembered fondly.

  12. My dear friend Ananka, 🧡 I am so sorry 😞 for your loss. I am 69 and have had cats most of my life and have lost many and each and every loss affected me deeply. I agree with the veterinarians that Jethro had a good long life.
I know how much you loved him and please know that he is at peace.
In each case that I lost a cat after a time I went to an animal shelter to adopt a cat. Not to replace the cat I lost, but to save another cat who needed a loving home.
It helped me to heal the sadness and it gave another cat a chance at a good life.
I got an older cat, around 3 years or a bit older, because everyone wants a kitten but I wanted to give an older cat a good loving home.
I am not suggesting that you do this, but if you do, it will help you to heal.
Sending you much love and hugs 🫂 🤗 ❤️

  21. I am so sorry. It is truly the worst pain imaginable. Pets are a constant. They are always home and always with us and when they are gone, the house doesn’t seem inviting. It seems cold and alone. I hope the feeling passes soon but it’ll take time

  22. Hi Ananka, Oh, I am so incredibly sorry for your loss. Losing a first pet is an absolute heartbreak, and it completely makes sense that the grief feels so deep right now; they really do become a massive part of your lives and families. Reaching 16 is beautiful, plus the love-filled life you gave him from the time he was a tiny kitten. Please take all the time you need to process this. Much love.

  25. It is a day I dread and desperately try to never think about, despite it having happened before. May dear Jethro have a very good rebirth, as we Buddhists believe. A life well spent, cared for and caring, generates much good karma in this and the next lives.
May you find peace in your heart from good memories and the love, fun and adventures that you shared.

  28. I am so so sorry for your loss. I hate that you are mourning the sudden loss of a family member. When I lost my cat many years back, it was an extremely difficult time. I still miss him terribly. There were some pet loss guided meditations on YouTube that helped me a lot. That might be something to consider as you navigate this time. When you love someone, whether a person or animal, that love doesn't ever go away. <3
