A Moth On Monday

Least Carpet Moth in Scotland

This is a Least Carpet Moth! It really is a beauty, I think. People aren't as keen on moths as they are butterflies and I don't understand! Moths are awesome as well.

  1. Yes, I think that's right! For some reason people aren't as keen on moths as they are butterflies!
    That is a nice photograph.

    All the best Jan

  2. You're right, dear Ananka, the Least Carpet Moth is very pretty. Butterflies are more colorful and flutter conspicuously from flower to flower, while moths tend to be more discreet. Perhaps that's why they're often overlooked. But the Least Carpet Moth has a chic pattern, and if it were a dress, it would be described as "elegant."
All the best from Austria, Traude

  4. ...look great to me. Butterflies and moths both belong to the insect order Lepidoptera, and butterflies are technically a subgroup of moths.

  9. I think the aversion that people have for moths is a result of them being primarily creatures of the night. Owls and bats suffer from the same animosity. Yet it reality, butterflies are just day-flying moths. Get over it people. Cherish them all!

  10. Boa tarde Ananka. Para mim, as mariposas, são tão belas como as borboletas. Uma excelente tarde de terça-feira, um excelente mês de junho e um grande abraço do seu amigo carioca.

  13. They are taken for granted. Also, many are smaller than their flamboyant cousins, making their beauty harder to see... Nice shot!!
