This is a Carrion Beetle or a Burying Beetle. It is actually on the back of a mushroom called Dryad's Saddle which I have posted about before here.

DeleteYou have a distinguished circle of friends, Ananka. I have no doubt that I would very much enjoy their company. Right now we have pupating Polyphemus Moths outside in the Linden tree and Giant Swallowtail and Monarch caterpillars indoors, growing by the day. Your kind of crowd, I am sure.
